I purchased the unit from a private party and the original owners manual was not available. Having the ability to download it was extremely helpful and clarified operating the equipment immensely. This is a complicated unit and without the manual I would not have been able to maximize it's potential. Thank you.
You should already have performed the necessary preparations ( pgs. 8 â 19). Set the Select Dial to âAUTOâ and try recording that way before attempting to use more advanced features.

RECORDING START/STOP BUTTON POWER LAMP
Before starting recording, make sure you set the date and time ( pg. 11). Even if they donât appear during recording, they are recorded onto the tape and can be displayed during playback ( pg. 45).
1 PULL OUT VIEWFINDER 2 TURN ON POWER
Align its mark with âSTANDBYâ. Set the Power Dial to âRECâ. The power lamp comes on and RECORD/STANDBY mode is engaged. â¢If you donât pull out the viewfinder, the power cannot be turned on.
5 END RECORDING
When youâre finished recording, press RECORDING START/STOP. Align the viewfinderâs mark with âCAMERA OFFâ; the power lamp goes out and the lens cover closes automatically.
â¢ When transporting, make sure the viewfinder is in this position. â¢ Before turning the power on again, you must pull out the viewfinder.
3 SELECT OPERATION MODE
â¢In the âAUTOâ mode, only Zoom (20x), Snapshot, 5S (if you change the setting in the System Menu, either 5SD or ANIMATION becomes available â see pgs. 18 â 19) and Self-Timer are available.
Set the Select Dial to âAUTOâ.
4 START RECORDING
When âPAUSEâ appears in the viewfinder, press RECORDING START/STOP. A beep signals the start of recording.
â If 5 minutes elapse in the RECORD/STANDBY mode, the power shuts off automatically to conserve energy. To turn the camcorder on again, set the Power Dial to âOFFâ, then to âRECâ. As long as you donât take out the tape you were using or play it back, you can continue recording from where you left off with no noticeable break. â RECORD/STANDBY means that a tape is loaded and the camcorder is ready to record. â If RECORD/STANDBY (Pause) is engaged for 5 minutes, the Stop mode is automatically activated to protect the heads. â If you start a recording on a blank portion of the tape, or onto a brand new tape, recording starts approximately 3-4 seconds after you press RECORDING START/STOP. In order to record the entire scene or sequence, make sure to start recording slightly in advance.
